3 Basic Latte Art Designs

During our recent trip to Florence, we gained our certificates in Latte Art and learned the 3 basic barista patterns – now all we need to do is practice on you lovely people!

According to Barista law we learned many things including:

  • We have the wrong sized and shaped cups for latte art but we will rise to the challenge and try to translate what we learned into a fabulous Dip Style
  •  In the UK we like our milk too hot – the optimum temperature for perfect tasting latte is 60 degrees C – however we are always asked for ‘extra hot milk’ which means the sweet taste is lost and the milk separates
  •  We have been doing it all wrong – our microfoam should have been a silky smooth emulsion like melted ice cream – we were just making our bubbles too big!
  • There is a lot more to it – follow the 4 P’s – pour speed, proximity to the cup, placement of the pitcher and a LOT of practice

We’ve borrowed some expert videos from the YouTubes but as time goes on we fully intend to be good enough to replace them with our own!

Latte Art Heart Design

Once you have your perfect latte milk you can begin to pour your design – for us, the heart and layered heart was the first pattern we attempted.
